INSTRUCTIONAL COACH JOB DESCRIPTION
Under the supervision of the school principal and assistant principal, the instructional coach supports all teaching staff in the implementation of the school’s instructional programs. The instructional coach will work directly with teachers providing classroom-based modeling and demonstrations, one-on-one coaching and mentoring, facilitating teacher inquiry groups and providing professional development. The instructional coach will focus on enhancing teachers’ ability to provide instruction that builds students’ sense of engagement and the ownership of the learning process. The instructional coach will work with administrators and teachers to collect and analyze data, interpret it, and use it to guide instructional decisions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supports and furthers the network and FLACS curriculum goals FLACS to support teacher pedagogical strategies that reflects a balance between teacher-guided learning (direct instruction), guided instruction, and student-guided learning (such as independent research and project-based work). 
  • Coaches and mentors teachers by modeling strategies for student engagement, in which students build excitement about learning, ownership of their own learning, and eventual independence in learning. 
  • Works with the school leader and the director of professional development to create a school-wide needs and goals for professional development that supports student achievement in alignment with the network mission and vision. 
  • Provides individualized, classroom-based support to implement comprehensive programs, including modeling of best teaching practices, planning and supporting the delivery of lessons in all content areas. 
  • Leads teacher teams and professional learning communities to improve professional practice to ensure all students reach their highest potential. 
  • Collaborates with the director of professional development and instructional coaches at other sites to build capacity and share best practices.
  • Participates in and/or lead data meetings to examine student work and monitor progress on assessments to assist teachers in creating action plans to address needs. 
  • Participates in child study meetings concerning the academic progress of at-risk students who are not responding to interventions. 
  • Participates in network meetings with the director of professional learning and the executive director of academics.
  • Develops and implements professional development sessions for groups of teachers.
  • Participates fully in professional development opportunities and professional research to stay up-to-date with current educational research.

 Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree required
  • At least 5 years of successful teaching experience in a relevant content/grade band 
  • Previous coaching or mentoring experience strongly preferred
  • Clearance for fingerprint
