CONTROLLER JOB DESCRIPTION

Under the supervision of the CFO, the Controller oversees the daily accounting operation, is responsible for the period-end closing, handles annual audit, ensures internal control mechanism is carried out, knows accounting provisions and trains team members.  They work closely with the Financial Analyst and Manager of Revenue and Reports for cohesive reporting, and across functional teams for financial data accuracy.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage A/P and A/R functions
  • Maintain accurate records of all financial transactions
  • Record and track income and expenses related to all contracts and grants, including federal entitlements
  • Handle the month-end close, quarterly reconciliation and review financial data on a quarterly basis and consult with CFO about problems or discrepancies
  • Assist in the development of reports for FLACS Management, CSI, NYSED, and other outside entities 
  • Prepare audit schedules and participate with financial audits with the CFO
  • Assist in the preparation of budgets or forecasts, FP&A tasks
  • Lead the formulation of internal controls and policies to comply with legislation and established best practices 
  • Assists in annual financial audit and grant management document preparation 
  • Assists in annual budget preparation

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BS/BA in Accounting
  • Experience working with charter school finance regulations, including federal and state compliance, grant accounting, and restricted/unrestricted funds is preferred
  • Professional certification (e.g. CPA) is preferred
  • Solid working knowledge of GAAP for non-profits is required 
  • Working knowledge of MS Office (especially Excel), accounting software (e.g. FUND EZ, NetSuite), and third party payroll system (Paycom, ADP). 
  • Excellent critical thinking as well as analytical skills and close attention to details
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint, Gmail, G-Suite, Power BI
  • Knowledge of FundEz, Avidxchange, banking software 
  • Possesses exceptional organizational skills and is an effective time manager and multi-tasker
  • Displays the ability to pay close attention to detail.
  • Clearance for fingerprint and criminal background check

Salary Range: $110K to $120K
